Kicking some ass into gear!!.....

After much procrastination its high time this blog started to look more full. The idea of my project still has the same groundwork-mens style and everything about it, but has somewhat a different outcome.....
This blog will now become part of my daily work I'm giving myself a big kick up the butt!
In the coming weeks I shall be putting up street shots from within Birmingham, Nottingham, Manchester and London. This will also be a place to forefront interesting articles I am researching for the style journal i am producing.
The asskicking in to gear begins now......

I smell a 'Good Rat'

images taken from Niall O'Briens Good Rats exhibition at Art Work Space
One exhibition I am going to see one night after WGSN will be the Niall O'Brien's 'Good Rats' showing at the Art Work Space in London, W2 until the 11th of March 2010.
Good Rats is the first exposure of work from the film-maker and Photographers 'Superheroes' series - an ongoing project seeing the photographer live along-side and observe the lives of a group of young punks from south London over the past 3 years.
This will back up the research I've been doing on youth subcultures of past and present and show that their influence still holds strong in Mens fashion today...

New Generation Designer: Nick Robbins

Photograph taken from www.wgsn.com

In the name of 3D and digital prints I have found a 'new generation' designer on the wgsn site who has done an amazin tailored collection with what I can only gather as 3D print or an emulation of one. The collection has a very retro-inspired classical look, very sophisticated but still with a contemporary fun edge.
The designers name is Nick Robbins and he is a Nottingham Trent Graduate of 2009.

Orschel-Read

Wednesday was menswear day at LFW and Vauxhall Fashion Scout. I was lucky enough to be given some tickets from WGSN (where I'm interning) to the Komakino and Orschel-Read's show. Front row I might add can't ask for more.
It has to be said that Orschel-Read previewed quite a beautiful collection....

Decoded

image from  http://www.vam.ac.uk/exhibitions/index.html
In the name of research what better place to go then the V&A museum in London. After the previous trend prediction project I've found a new interest in the digital side of things and see this as a direction we'll all take within the next decade. Bearing this is mind the main exhibition I was dying to see was the Decode:digital sensations, and it did not disappoint. Videos to be uploaded on my arrival back from Liverpool, but this exhibition is a must see for all interactive lovers. Each piece was in someway interactive with the senses: sound, movement and touch.
More detail to follow tomorrow....

Check Mate

Don't get me wrong I really wouldn't say I hated checked shirts, hate is too strong a word. But in my good old hometown of Loughborough, men just seem to love the new craze for them. Loughborough uniform i'd call it. One did somehow stand out in the 50 odd or more we seen whilst out on the town enjoying a few beverages though...

More of a London feel to him than the 'Loughborough Uniform' I'd say.

First Post: Wahey

Better late than never but here goes the first post. Thought I should start with my own work seeing as this is a blog to support my 'journey' through my final project. Rough ride with plenty of pro plus and caffeine this will be I'm sure. Suppose the 'journey' began with our inspirational boards. Our studio is filled with huge floor to ceiling boards, each of us has our own space to put whatever inspires us on to. My inspiration came from anything and everything going on in menswear at that current time. From AW2010/11 shows to photo shoots from current and previous issues of contemporary fashion magazines. My favourite piece has to be my life size Raf Simons man from his SS2010 collection......

Here you can see me and my housemate enjoying him a little too much maybe.
The moodboard in full consists of images I found in Dansk, Vogue Homme, Arena Homme+, Fantastic man and various blogs. Dazed and Confused and Style Salvage being the main ones. Milans menswear fashion week had literally just taken place with the release of Bruce Webers short film commissioned by Stefano Pilato for YSL. With that in mind I also looked a lot at various Catwalks from AW2010/11 season. Has to be said that the late Alexander McQueen previewed an absolutely beautifully tailored collection with inspiring textural prints. Sure to be the biggest collection of the season. Also notably were the Paul Smith, Raf Simons, Maison Martin Margiela and John Galliano collections. All can be found on www.style.com
